SEVECODE - End of dead spots while driving

Vehicle-to-everything. Services demonstration over satellite.

SEVECODE connects vehicles to mobile base stations and satellites via 5G technology to ensure a stable and uninterrupted internet connection even in remote areas or when crossing borders. This ensures that the connection is always available, which is important for emergencies and modern vehicle applications.

Objectives

The main objective of the SEVECODE project is to develop a test environment that enables the demonstration of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) 5G applications with non-terrestrial networks (NTN) and their integration into the existing terrestrial 5G network (TN). In particular, the activity aims to demonstrate the performance and benefits of an integrated TN/NTN 5G hybrid network for V2X services using existing satellite systems.

The project includes several 5G NTN V2X applications implemented based on 3GPP 5G New Radio (NR) standards in the FR1 and FR2 mobile frequency bands. Bi-directional 5G connections will be realized both terrestrially and via satellite to evaluate the KPIs of the applications and to demonstrate the continuity of the TN/NTN service when switching between different coverage areas.

Challenges

The following areas represent the greatest challenges for the project:

Benefits

Integration of TN and NTN 5G connections for V2X services opens up a world of opportunities for the automotive sector: it would enable ubiquitous and uninterrupted connectivity, especially in emergency situations, across national borders and in hard-to-reach areas. The project enables the investigation of NTN/TN 5G connectivity for various case studies. The project team includes companies from the telecommunications, satellite and automotive industries, bringing a variety of expertise and capabilities to bring the technology to market.

Current status

Project started in September 2024.
